Exploring Frankfurt + Flying to London: Days 27 & 28 {2013}

Day 27 Friday October 4 Germany

Today we had a lazy morning - the kids were in school, but the adults had the day off work. That was fun!

In the afternoon the girls went to a baby sitter and we all went into Frankfurt and walked around. We got ice cream, window shopped, and ended up at this fantastic Greek restaurant.

And we took tons of pictures:

Day 28 Saturday, October 5th Germany

This morning it rained all day long, so it made for a super lovely relaxing Saturday at home with Olaf and Janina on our last day.

At one point, we ventured out into the rain for cake and coffee:

Around 6 it was time to leave for the airport as it was two hours away from their house. Janina even packed us a lunch for the flight! They are just the nicest people ever. Our flight back to London was uneventful - -we definitely have the Ryanair thing down - we were first in line! Ryanair is sort of like a cult. You can obviously tell who has flown with them before and who has not. It's pretty funny. There’s basically no signage, no warnings, and no instruction so you sort of just have to know the deal or you end up the last person to board.

We got into London, hopped on a train and headed to our airbnb host’s place for the night.

It ended up being one of the strangest places we stayed. The hosts themselves were really nice, but the place was very strange. It advertised itself as a private room in a house…..but in reality it was a tiny little house with 4 "cabins" in the backyard. The cabins were just planks of wood held together by little L-brackets, and strange frosted plexiglass for windows — so you could still see shadows moving….it was like half privacy. Inside of the janky ass “cabins” was just a shitty old futon and a light. I think there was an extension cord of some kind? The whole operation was run like a hostel and everyone shared one teeny tiny bathroom that was inside of the house and was super fucking awkward because it was in the kitchen. So if you had to shit you were just shitting. Next to everyone having breakfast. And then the shower was in a different room, also in the kitchen and all it had was this floppy, insecure accordion door. It was pretty fucking whack.

It's funny because all of that is fine and dandy - but only if you are up front about that in your ad. And these people were not. So it was super misleading. I was thanking fuck we were only there for one night.
